Gary started his retail career under the leadership of Lord Harris working in the Harris Queensway empire and honed his skills as a retailer & marketer. Gary was then approached to join the Magnet Joinery business where he was responsible for launching their retail kitchen programme after joining as Marketing Manager in 1988. Gary proceeded to rise through the ranks and became Marketing Director and also took the position of Sales Director when launching the new Magnet Trade division. He finally secured the position of CEO and was in charge for 8 years.  During this period, Gary was also appointed to the Board of the global food catering company Enodis under the stewardship of leading entrepreneur Alan Bowkett.  During his tenure, disposal of the Magnet business was made to Nobia, global number 1 manufacturer of fitted kitchens. Soon after the acquisition, Gary was promoted to Vice President and responsible for the development of the Nobia retail businesses.  The Company was then floated on the Stock Exchange following a very successful change programme that was implemented under the owners of Nobia.

In the last 4 years in Gary’s role as CEO, CAGR rose to 20% and the return on sales from 5% to 10%. After the successful floatation, he was approached to lead the MFI privatisation which after all of the initial development work, fell pray to the economical crash of retail in 2006. Since that time, Gary has undertaken several specialist projects and is currently CEO of Allied Carpets Retail Ltd, he is also developing a fitted kitchen offer for Habitat that will be rolled out across the UK and Europe.
